IntroductIon
Project Brief: For this project, I was asked to work on a product family project for the bathroom environment. I would pick either the accessories surrounding the toilet or the wash basin. I was free to choose which accessories I would be designing.
The main design criteria for this project were to create a coherent product language and brand identity for the products.
The DesIgn
"I aimed to design products that complement and enhance each other while still standing out as unique pieces in their own right. Also, I decided to create durable products that offer reliable and hygienic usage while keeping the same design language across the product range. "
All motion components and mechanisms were also designed by me to ensure reliable motion and uniqueness.
Cabin Layout
DesIgn Process
"I decided to go for a modern look, inspired by the water drop and opted to make public restrooms more hygienic. Here are the initial sketches I made for the brush and the TP holder."
Mock-ups & Prototypes
Considering the physical nature of the products after some initial sketches I started to make mock-ups. Here is the mock-up of the TP holder. I used this mock-up to test for ergonomics of the handle and to ensure ease of use.
Following the 1:1 mock-ups wanted to test my custom-designed motion components. After some motion studies in CAD decided I could 3D print a scaled working model so I could see what to improve for later designs
In the last set of prototypes, I 3D printed 1:1 working models of all the pieces of the set. Tested them for ergonomics, reliability, and physical cohesiveness. I also designed the layout of the cabin in which these products would live.
